Volunteers for Tokyo 2020

Applications accepted from September 26 to early December, 2018
(until noon, December 5 for City Volunteers)

Volunteers are "the face" of the host city and the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, and the success of the Games depends on your contribution.
We welcome the participation of people with the passion to contribute to the success of the Games, people who wish to experience the event operation of the Olympic and Paralympic Games ―a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity― and people who want to work together to build excitement for the Games!

Locations/ Activities

City Volunteer
Providing tourism and transport information at an airport, major stations in Tokyo, sightseeing areas, stations nearest to Games venues and Live Sites
Games Volunteer
Services for spectators, event operations support and media support at games-related facilities and the Olympic Village

(Around five hours per day including break times)
Additionally, 30-minute meetings are planned to be held before and after shifts.

(Approximately eight hours per day including rest breaks and standby times)
The lengths of activities may be limited to less than 10 days due to shift arrangements and other circumstances, depending on event schedules, activity sites, etc. In principle, any activity will not be continued for more than five consecutive days.

What to consider when applying

  • Born on or before April 1, 2002
  • Japanese national or person with permission to reside in Japan
  • Able to hold a simple conversation (able to communicate) in Japanese

  • Born prior to 1 April 2002
  • Japanese national or person with valid visa permitting residence in Japan during the volunteer period (temporary visitors included)
