We established a website and started registering volunteers in April 2014, in preparation for the 71st National Sports Festival in Iwate and the 16th National Sports Festival for People with Disabilities , both of which were held last year, as well as Rugby World Cup 2019™ and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The registered individuals performed volunteer activities during the National Sports Festival and played a huge role of delivering “omotenashi,” or the spirit of hospitality and service. These volunteers became a “legacy” of the National Sports Festival, and many of them registered with us to participate in volunteer activities. Currently, we are connecting the registered volunteers with sports events that take place within Iwate Prefecture.

Major activities

  1. Registering sports volunteers
Contact volunteers working at integrated regional sports clubs within the prefecture, sports events held at various municipalities, professional sports matches, etc., and ask them to register as sports volunteers.

  2. Gathering and providing information on sports volunteers
Contact organizers and executive committees of various sports events and gather information on sports volunteers. Send out recruitment information to all registered volunteers, and also post it on our website and Facebook page. We also provide information to student volunteers at universities and vocational schools.

  3. Matching sports volunteers
If there is someone willing to help out an event that is seeking volunteers, we contact the event’s organizer and act as a mediator between the organizer and willing individual.

  4. Holding training sessions for sports volunteers
Holding training sessions and group work activities to teach volunteers at integrated regional sports clubs , sports promotion officers and students about what it means to become a sports volunteer and what to keep in mind.
  • Cooperation with Iwate Sports Commission
The Iwate Sports Commission was established on October 21, 2017, in Iwate Prefecture. We will cooperate with the commission and further promote the registration and utilization of volunteers so that they could be active in various sports competitions, such as Rugby World Cup 2019™.

Past Activities

  1. Training sessions for sports volunteers
We invited instructors from Bunkyo University, Japan Sports Volunteer Network, Citizens Sports Volunteer SV2004 and so on, and held training sessions for sports volunteers.

  2. Promotional activities for the 71st National Sports Festival in Iwate and the 16th National Sports Festival for People with Disabilities
Integrated regional sports clubs played a central role in promoting the National Sports Festival by distributing pamphlets, etc. during a pre-tournament competition held the previous year and various other events. We also had people dress in the character costumes of“Wanko Kyodai” – a mascot character of Iwate Prefecture – and livened up the atmosphere at the venue.

  3. Volunteers at the 71st National Sports Festival in Iwate and the 16th National Sports Festival for People with Disabilities
A large number of volunteers participated in the National Sports Festival and was active in assisting with registration, guiding participants, helping out at rest stations and cleaning up, making the festival a success. After the festival, we asked all these volunteers to register as sports volunteers and received numerous registrations.

  4. Sports volunteers at sports events taking place within the prefecture
Volunteers are continuing to be active as a “legacy” of the National Sports Festival, helping out with registration and first aid participants at sports events that take place within the prefecture, such as the Tono Genghis Khan Marathon and Kitakami Marathon.
